"Breaking Bad"
I had an alternate title planned out for this post, which read, "The Art of Feeling Bad". I then spent hours thinking about how would Sri Sri Ravi Shankar feel about it?
*gurudev nods in disapproval*
Well, maybe not.
In this piece, I will be talking about the science that governs the feeling of feeling bad, and how can one break it for the better. When I feel abysmal or meritless sometimes, I may not necessarily be hinting towards the emotional and psychological aspect of it. Human emotions are capable of inducing pain. Whenever a person or a sitch hurt me, I felt my muscles tighten. Thinking about it over and over again made me feel dizzy, nauseous. Now, you might be wondering;
- "Aditi? Is not that called 'being overdramatic'?"
No. Absolutely not.
Our emotions are chiefly governed by a class of hormones that fall under the category of "neurotransmitters". The neurotransmitters that actively participate in the process of making us feel buoyant or disconsolate are;
- Cortisol
- Dopamine
- GABA
- Noradrenaline and
- Oxytocin
The endocrine system of our body consists of a cluster of glands that regulate hormone production. Neurons help decrease or increase the same. Hormones feed on the environmental stimuli that circulate(s) an organism. These teensy-weensy guys are also capable of influencing the CNS (Central Nervous System) of our body. It constitutes of the brain and the spinal cord.
Dopamine and Serotonin: the hormones that make us feel exultant.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the ultimate key to unlocking these "happy" hormones. Consuming salubrious beverages and food items is the first step to achieving such a way of life. In a world that is chiefly reigned by covetousness, fabricated actualities and nefarious thought processes, striving to stay sane has become such a disconcerting task.
Now, time for the colossal question. How do we activate them- the happy hormones? I researched a 'liddulbit' and found a shedload of underlying reasons from which such finer feelings are capable of sprouting. Abhorring oneself to transforming in to a numb, unemotional human being, "feeling bad" can take us to extreme termini (or, terminuses).
01/ DOPAMINE
- Set goals. Once you complete them, reward yourself. Cherish every win, even if they are pygmies.
- Rest. Recharge. Replenish.
02/ ENDORPHINS
- Indulge in some form of exercise. Go for a quick run, maybe?
- Laugh it out. Cackle maniacally for a minute or two. Trust me, it works wonders.
- Endorphins are known to be nature's 'pain-relief medications'. Have some dark chocolate for an expeditious activation.
03/ OXYTOCIN (the lovey-dovey chemical messenger)
- Snuggle your furry babies. They are a powerhouse of affection that know no ambit.
- Embrace yourself.
- Empower one another. It is a beautiful world.
04/ (and lastly,) SEROTONIN
- Meditate.
- Follow my playlists on Spotify [;)] and listen to them. Music is THE greatest cheerleader.
- Nature. Remove your footwear and let the grass caress your bare feet. Feel the breeze, feel the rustling of the leaves.
Our body is such a composite, perplexing machine. It must get tired too. Actually, it does get tired. Really tired. And just like any other biotic creature on this orb, our body yearns for love as well. The first step to setting one's foot in Eden is loving oneself- unreservedly and utterly. Love does conquer all. Our hormones and our sentiments, my love, are no exclusion.

*ahem*
*clears throat a 'liddulbit' more*
Is the dark chocolate doing its' job? ;)
The two figures of speech that I used whilst constructing this piece are;
01/ Metaphor
02/ and Personification
15 points to you if you figured it out already! Blessed day, dear reader!
